Nancy Chu

Nancy is a PhD candidate in Buddhist Studies at Stanford. She holds a BA in Chinese and English literature from Swarthmore College, an MDiv in Buddhism from Harvard Divinity School, and an MPhil in social anthropology from the University of Cambridge. At Stanford, she is interested in exploring the connection between Buddhist practices and pain reduction. Her current research is on how Buddhist monastics and hospital patients in Taiwan respond to chronic and acute pain. Prior to coming to Stanford, she completed professional chaplaincy training at UCSF Medical Center and Brigham and Women's Hospital.
