George completed an MA in Oriental Religions at the School of Oriental and African Studies in the UK, as well as a postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University's Council on East Asian Studies. His main area of research is the mountain ascetic tradition of Shugendō, with an emphasis on the material landscape of the tradition's mountain sites.
