Julia Cross

Julia Cross joins Buddhist Studies as a Postdoctoral Fellow for 2022–24. Julia is a historian of medieval Japan, specializing in religion, death, and the body. Drawing on Buddhist manuscripts and art, her research examines how people in medieval Japan attributed religious and social significance to the body, specifically the sacred dead.

Julia will be teaching a course titled "Mummies, Ghosts, and Relics: Understandings of the Sacred Dead" (RELIGST 222/322) in Spring 2023.
