Congratulations to Adeana McNicholl on her promotion to Associate Professor!

Congratulations to Stanford alumna Adeana McNicholl (PhD '19) on her promotion to Associate Professor in the Department of Religious Studies of Vanderbilt University, effective September 1. 

McNicholl, a scholar of premodern South Asia, is the author of Of Ancestors and Ghosts (Oxford University Press, 2024), a monograph that grew out of dissertation work on the Buddhist preta. (You can learn more about this project in this profile from last year's edition of Lekha or this episode of "Book Notes" on the HCBSS podcast.) She is currently working on a second book, provisionally titled Black Buddhism: A Religious History of Afro-Asian Solidarity, and a documentary reader on Black Buddhism, which she is co-editing with Ralph H. Craig III. She is, in addition, the co-director of the Buddhism and Caste Initiative with Nicholas Witkowski and compiler of the online resource “Teaching Race and Racism in Buddhist Studies” with Ann Gleig.
