2020–22 Postdoctoral Fellowship at The HCBSS is Awarded to Trent Walker

We are delighted to announce that Trent Walker will join us in the Autumn as the 2020–22 Postdoctoral Fellow at The Ho Center for Buddhist Studies at Stanford. Trent received his PhD in Buddhist Studies from U.C. Berkeley in 2018. Since then he has been living in Thailand and working at Chulalongkorn University as a Khyentse Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow. His dissertation was on Cambodian leporellos, or folded-paper manuscripts, that contain chants for Buddhist end-of-life rituals. At Stanford, Trent hopes to complete his in-progress monograph, Classical Readings, Vernacular Writing: A Bitextual History of Mainland Southeast Asian Buddhism, 1350–1850, which developed from his dissertation. In addition, he will teach two classes on aspects of Southeast Asian Buddhism during his tenure here.
